You only have one skin throughout your lifetime therefore it is imperative that you take good care of it. No one is too young or too old to take good care of their skin. The first problem that you have to tackle is dryness. Dryness is normal here in Singapore but it doesn’t mean that you have to let it persist for a long time. Dry skin is the result of your lifestyle.
The good news is that there are things that you can do to make your skin supple and smooth. It is easy to achieve a supple and smooth skin if you have budget because you can just go to your dermatologist and you get immediately results. If you are the traditional and practical type, all you need is to make few adjustments especially on your daily skin care routine.
Here are some strategies to defend skin against dryness and eventually achieve a smooth skin:
- Avoid long, hot baths: There is nothing wrong if you take hot baths or showers but what is damaging to your skin is long, hot baths. Prolonged exposure to hot baths can leave skin dry out. Remember that hot water can strip oil from the skin easier. If you cannot help it, you can just limit your hot bath maybe five to ten minutes every day.
- Avoid harsh cleansers: You just pick shower gel without giving it much thought. This is something that you have to change if you want a smoother skin. Sometimes you do not know it but there are shower gels that are harsh for the skin. To make picking easier, only consider soap-free, unscented and mild cleansers.
- Look for the best moisturizer: Many Singaporeans think that a good moisturizer costs a fortune. It is not true. You only need to read the label to know which one is best. It may be helpful if you know what to look. Here are some ingredients that you have to consider: glycerine, dimethicone, ceramides, lanolin and hyaluronic acid – these ingredients have the capacity to hold water and lock it in.
- How to moisturize: You may have the best moisturizer but it can be futile if you do not know how to moisturize. It is important that you know how to do it because it can make a difference at the end of the day. When applying moisturizer, do not forget to do it while skin is still moist. Just gently pat your skin with your towel then make sure it is damp. Your skin is ready now for the moisturizer. A gentle reminder though – apply the moisturizer within 3 to 5 minutes after shower.
