You are always reminded by your teachers and parents back in your school days that breakfast is very important. As you go along life, you skip it but then nothing changed – you are still productive and energetic. Actually, the truth is there are some people who can go about their daily life skipping breakfast.
However there are really some Singaporeans who cannot proceed without breakfast. As much as possible, you need to prepare healthy breakfast but sometimes you have to hurry so you buy breakfast cereals, muffins, pancakes, waffles and fruit juices. These may sound a practical choice but then you have to think that these are not healthy foods.
Remember that if you eat the right kind of foods in your breakfast, it will bring you energy plus it can curb your desire to eat too much the rest of the day. With this, you have to know what to eat for breakfast – the ones that are good for the body. Here are some foods you need to eat for breakfast:
- Eggs
Without a doubt eggs are delicious and nutritious. Egg yolks for example contain zeaxanthin and lutein – antioxidants that can avert eye disorders like macular degeneration and cataracts. It does not end there, the egg contains choline which has an important role for liver and brain health. In fact, it has high cholesterol content but it will not raise your levels.
- Coffee
Instead of drinking juice drinks (because you think it is healthy when it is not), you have to consider coffee. It is an excellent choice for breakfast. It has high in caffeine that can improve your mood, mental performance and alertness.
- Oatmeal
Forget about cereals. Oatmeal should be considered as it contains fibres that can reduce cholesterol. In particular, it contains viscous fiber that can stimulate feelings of fullness. It doesn’t end there because oats contain antioxidants that can decrease your blood pressure.
- Chia seeds
Aside from oatmeal, chia seeds are an excellent source of fibre like the viscous fibre not to mention it is rich in antioxidants that can shield cells from free radicals.
- Berries
Berries are delicious and nutritious which make it a good breakfast meal to start your day. Common berries include blueberries, strawberries, raspberries and blackberries. They are low in sugar but high in fibre. Research found out that it can reduce inflammation and avert blood cholesterol from being oxidized.
