What You’ll Find in a Wedding Florist’s Emergency Kit

November 17, 2017 by Editor 0 Comments

Being a wedding florist in Singapore is no small feat, as it involves not just the careful planning and pre-ordering of wedding flowers, but also the time and effort in designing them and making sure that they stay fresh and beautiful throughout the wedding ceremony and well into the reception.

As a wedding florist setting up a wedding in Singapore, you should view the emergency kit as your best friend that you can count on when things can get a little bit out of hand. The right tools packed in this emergency kit can get you out of most pinches should the need arise.

These are the things you’ll usually find in the emergency kit of a wedding florist:

    • Pins – Pins are a must-have for fastening other types of wedding decor, such as ribbons
    • Scissors – Anything that needs a trim other than flowers could be trimmed with a good pair of sharp scissors.
    • Floral shears – Along with scissors, these are a must-have to cut the wedding flowers safely.
    • Floral wire/Wire cutter – Drooping flowers that can’t be easily replaced can be propped up with floral wire to keep them upright for longer. Floral wire can also be handy for
    • Watering can – Sometimes, the flowers in the bridal bouquet or the wedding car decor can droop and look less lively. Having a watering can allows you to give these flowers just the right amount of water without any of it dribbling down.
    • Floral tape – Floral tape serves as a better fastener, than most kinds of tape. It’s a gentle, water-resistant adhesive that only sticks to itself, which makes it ideal for keeping the bridal bouquet together.
    • Extra flowers – Whether it’s for the floral decor, the bridal bouquet, or even the wedding car decor, having a few extra flowers to add and/or replace the drooping ones will definitely come in handy.
    • Extra ribbons – Extra ribbons can come in handy for emergency repairs and even adding a little more spruce to the bouquets and the wedding car decor.
    • Towel – Water in vases can sometimes slosh around and spill onto you or on tables. A towel can come in handy when it comes to wiping up water and other stains
    • Apron – As you will constantly find yourself running around to make sure that the floral decor from the the bridal florist shop in Singapore stays beautifully in place, you run the risk of having different kinds of stains on your clothes. An apron helps you minimize getting stains or water from sloshing onto your outfit.
    • Water – Water isn’t just for the flowers to keep them from drying out for longer. It’s also for the wedding florist to stay hydrated, especially when it comes to the humid climate in Singapore.

Now that the basic items have been covered, some of the additional tools in the emergency kit of a wedding florist include:

    • Extra boutonniere – A lot of hugging during the wedding can crush boutonnieres, which makes it a good idea to have one or two lying around for the wedding day shoot just in case.
    • Extra vase – Someone accidentally drops a centerpiece? No need to worry too much when you can simply re-place the centerpiece flowers into a new vase and sweep up the broken pieces.
    • Duster – Sweep those fallen debris (e.g. petals, leaves, etc.) after setting up or after an accident with a handy duster and a dustbin.
    • Garbage bag – This comes in handy for collecting fallen petals or any other trash that could result during or after setting up the floral decor.
    • String – Extra string or rope can be great for tying decor together or for hanging them from arches.
    • Hammer/nails – Even though you will hardly be needing these, they are still essential items for your emergency kit that will come in handy for dealing with floral arches or backdrops.

Emergencies to Prepare for as a Wedding Florist

No wedding is going to turn out perfectly – there will always be a slip-up or two that could happen at any time during not just the planning process, but also during the set up at the venue or on the day itself. As a wedding florist, here are a few situations that you need to prepare a contingency plan for:

    • Being late – Avoid this as much as possible, as this can negatively impact your business as a wedding florist and will lessen opportunities for you in the future. However, in the rare event that you happen to be late for the wedding, it’s important that you have a list of wedding florists on speed-dial that you can refer to your client.

    • Bad weather – What happens when the outdoor floral decor is already set up when it rains all of a sudden?
There is little that can be done except to move the wedding flowers inside once it’s already been set up just before the rain. When it comes to planning for outdoor venues, be sure to include a tent in your package that the bride and groom can rent if there is no indoor space. If you don’t have a tent yourself, you can refer your clients to someone who can rent this tent.

    • Unflattering decor – Be sure to talk to your clients first and ask to see the venue before you can proceed to look for the flowers that would best suit it. If possible, ask for pictures during the consultation, as the flowers are only as good as the venue which they are supposed to supplement.
