With so many fruit choices in markets all over Singapore, you will surely never run out of dessert ideas for the family. Here are eight fruit salad recipes you need to try for healthier desserts.
Summer Fruit Salad
Ingredients: 2 peeled and sliced peaches, 1 cup blueberries, 1 cup raspberries, 2 teaspoons lemon juice, 2 tablespoons powdered sugar, 1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon, and 2 teaspoons orange-flavored liqueur.
Preparation: Toss all the fruits in a bowl, while the remaining ingredients are stirred in a separate bowl. Pour the mixture on the fruits, then toss before chilling for 30 minutes.
Ginger and Lemon Fruit Salad
Ingredients: 2 Fuji or Gala apples, 2 mangoes, 2 red Bartlett pears, 2 navel oranges, 1 peeled and cored pineapple, 2 tablespoons honey, 2 teaspoons grated ginger, and ¼ cup lemon juice.
Preparation: Prepare all the fruits into bite-size pieces then place in a large bowl. In a separate bowl, whisk the honey, lemon juice, and ginger. Drizzle the mixture on the fruits, then toss. Chill before serving.
Fruitini
Ingredients: ½ cantaloupe, ½ pound halved grapes, 1 sliced banana, 2 pieces of peeled and sliced kiwi fruit, 1 peeled and sectioned navel orange, 10 sliced strawberries, ¼ cup powdered sugar, and 1/3 lemon juice.
Preparation: Divide the ¼ cup of powdered sugar and 1/3 cup of lemon juice, then toss all the fruits, half the powdered sugar, and half the lemon juice in a bowl. In two separate saucers, pour the other half of the lemon juice and the powdered sugar, then dip the rims martini glasses in each saucer. Fill the martini glasses with the fruit salad.
Fruit Salad with Yogurt
Ingredients: 2 cups Greek yogurt, 4 cups pineapple chunks, 1 quart of hulled and sliced strawberries, 3 cups seedless green grapes, 2 peeled and sliced mangoes, 4 ounces raspberries, 1 tablespoon brown sugar, and 1 tablespoon honey.
Preparation: Toss all the fruits in a bowl, then in a separate bowl, prepare the yogurt sprinkled with sugar and honey. Serve the fruits with the yogurt mixture on top.
Hawaiian Fresh Fruit Salad
Ingredients: 6 fruits of your choice, 1 ½ tablespoon honey, fresh lime juice, and ¾ tablespoon chopped ginger or ground ginger
Preparation: Stir the bite-size fruits, honey, ginger, and lime juice in a bowl.
Creamy Frozen Fruit
Ingredients: 1 pack softened cream cheese, 10 ounces drained maraschino cherries, 11 ounces drained mandarin oranges, 8 ounces drained crushed pineapples, ½ cup sugar, ½ cup chopped pecans, 8 ounces frozen whipped topping, and fresh mint.
Preparation: Beat the cream cheese and sugar, then add the cherries, pineapples, and pecans. Fold in the whipped topping and oranges. In small cups, place the fruit mixture and garnish with cherries and oranges. Freeze, then serve with mint.
Fruit Compote
Ingredients: 12 ounces strawberries, ½ ounce sliced blanched almonds, 1 orange, 2 pieces pears, 2 teaspoon sugar, and ¼ teaspoon almond extract.
Preparation: Squeeze the orange on a saucepan, then add the pears, almond extract and sugar. Cook and stir for 5 minutes until the pears have softened. Remove the heat before adding and stirring the strawberries. Transfer to another container and refrigerate until chilled. Serve with almonds.
