Do you like books? Well, we’re hoping you do. That way, it wouldn’t be hard to explain to you why cookbooks are so important. But even if you don’t we want to help you understand why they are. Now, what makes a good book a good book? Is it the value of the content? Is it the rarity of the book? Or is it the sentimental value a certain book has to you? All of these are correct!
We Live in an Unprecedented Time of Food Production
When it comes to books, cookbooks are no exception. Now, our second question. Do you like food? Who doesn’t? Over the years, food has been more than just a means for survival. In fact, food has become a way of life. Careers have been built around food. Dreams have been built around food. Culture has been built around food. So many things have been built around food that we can’t deny its importance. Ever heard of the food industry?
Yup, that industry alone provides a huge fraction of our means to life around the world! Food is most definitely important to us and lucky for us, we live in an age where variety and good food is available almost everywhere. What about back then? Well, back in the day, people were limited to as little as three recipes for the rest of their lives. Imagine that? Eating only three different types of cooking all throughout your entire life?
Our Food and Means of Cooking are as Varied as Ever
We live in an age when we are experiencing an “information overload crisis” this means that information is coming in faster than we are able to absorb it. Because of this information overload, we tend to forget to appreciate the information available to us. How could we? Back in the day, people would go to great lengths for pieces of information. Nowadays, all you have to do is search it up in the internet.
This has become both a good thing and a bad thing. People forget to appreciate the importance of information as information has become easier and easier to obtain. Now, if everything is moving forward, why bring certain things like books with us? This is because to understand the future, you must learn to respect the past. Despite the availability of electronic books, people who value knowledge know better than to abandon a good book. A cookbook is no exception.
Cookbooks Used to Mean So Much More Before
In previous times, cookbooks were extremely valuable! In some countries, they were even traded amongst one group of people and another. Learning a new recipe required apprenticeship over a long period of time. People have lived their whole lives perfecting a certain recipe. Luckily for us, we might just find it in a cookbook. A lot of heart and soul has been poured into the invention of new recipes and the compilations of these recipes are not an exception.
People have been taking for granted the joy of opening up a cookbook, trying out the recipe, and the ecstatic feeling of being able to duplicate not just the visual aspect of the dish but also the flavor of the dish itself! Recipes should be treasured and to treasure them, we must have them around. Have a cookbook or two around your house just in case you want to cook your favorite recipe or even try something new.
